The Federation of School Sports Association (Fessap) announced last Monday the names of four more archers who will represent the country in the 2017 Summer Universiade in Chinese Taipei in August.
Jayson Mendoza, Jules Ecuan and Janus Ventura were the Top 3 finishers in the 1st National Students Men’s Archery Championship, a qualifying tournament for the Universiade, which was held last Saturday at the Baguio Archery Range.
Mendoza and Ventura are from the University of Baguio, while Ecuan is from the University of Cordillera.
Also earning a slot in the six-member archery team is Cynah Banasen Hidalgo from the University of Baguio. She will join schoolmates Loren Chloe Balaoing and Shanaya Rose Dangla in the Universiade, set for August 19 to 31, 2017.
Balaoing and Dangla have qualified after competing in the 1st Asian University Archery Championship in Malaysia in April.
Baguio City Archery Club President John Hongitan has expressed gratitude to Fessap for giving Baguio City athletes the opportunity to compete in the Universiade, a multisport event organized for university athletes by the International University Sports Federation (Fisu).
“The support of the Fessap is beneficial to the archers from the City of Pines and we encourage our athletes to do their best during the Taipei competition and bring glory to the country,” said Hongitan.
Fessap President David Ong will head the archery delegation. JTM/PNA
