National Artist Legaspi’s ‘Lying in State’ at the CCP

The Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) is celebrating the birth centenary of the late National Artist for Visual Arts Cesar F. Legaspi with the exhibit Lying in State, which opened on April 2—his birthday—and is part of the yearlong “100 Years of Cesar Legaspi” series of events celebrating his life and works.

Showcasing Legaspi’s public art projects and state-commissioned works, including those from the collections of the CCP, the National Museum of the Philippines, and Malacañang Palace, Lying in State features unique collaborations with younger generations of artists from diverse fields. They range from the lantern makers of Pampanga province to media artists taking off from Legaspi’s pieces in employing animation and video projection.

Aside from the exhibit itself, a series of related activities will be held from April to June at the CCP as an educational component to the exhibition.

Lying in State is on view at the Bulwagang Juan Luna (Main Gallery), and on the second and third floor hallway galleries of the CCP. Admission is free, and viewing days and hours are from Tuesday to Sunday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The exhibit runs until June 4. TMM
