SM Foundation Inc. was on its programmed medical and dental mission in Barangay Calayo, Nasugbu on Friday (April 23) when three emergency cases involving young boys were brought before them and were immediately attended to by the mission sparing the patients of prolonged pain, miseries and even expenses.
The three cases involved an 11-year old boy who was accidentally pulled in a machine in a bakery; the second was a boy with folliculitis, an inflammation of the hair follicle; and the third was a six-year old boy with a wound on the right foot for more than a week, which was cleansed, mended and dressed/covered by the medical mission.
The medical mission, headed by Dr. Bless Bertos of SMFI, attended to 324 medical/diagnostic needs; 30 dental cases; 19 X-ray; 9 ECGs; 14 sugar tests; 10 cholesterol tests and 11 tests for uric acid or a total of 414 medical services to the barangay.
The 11- year old boy who got pulled in a machine was given first aid treatment. Pain relievers were injected to the patient and upon extraction from the machine, an Xray was administered to check for fractures. After these procedures, the patient was brought to the nearest hospital with the help of the municipal DRRMO (disaster risk reduction and management office) of Nasugbu.
The other two cases likewise received prompt medical attention.
SMFI holds monthly medical and dental missions in every area in the country where the conglomerate operates as part of paying back to these communities for their patronage of the Group’s various products and services.
SM Foundation is actively pursuing programs to promote health and wellness as part of its advocacy. Aside from medical missions, it renovates public health centers, and establishes FTS wellness centers in hospitals.
