Young figure skater bags 3 golds in Japan

Seven-year-old Filipina figure skater Ayasofya Vittoria Aguirre bagged three gold medals in the recent 29th Annual Skate Japan 2017 in Ageo City, Japan.

Philippine Airlines flew Aguirre to Haneda recently to compete in the annual competition where she bagged the top titles in three different categories — artistic, technical and footwork elements. She also got one silver and voted best overall in Artistic Performance. It was her first time to join a foreign competition.

The young lass bested older and seasoned skaters from other Southeast Asian countries including Japan, China, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand.

Inspired by Disney’s ‘Frozen’, Aguirre started skating for leisure at age five. Seeing her potential, Aguirre’s coaches encouraged her to pursue the sport. Since then, she started to compete and won numerous awards including gold medals in the 2015 Skate Manila and 2016 Summer Skate. Aguirre, one of the youngest Philippine figure skaters, has been undergoing training and programs under the Philippine Sports Commission.
