The Chinese Embassy in Manila on Thursday expressed its appreciation to the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) for providing prompt medical assistance to a Chinese national who was electrocuted while transiting the Basilan Strait.
In a social media post, Embassy Deputy Spokesperson Guo Wei commended the PCG for its swift response to the emergency.
“Sincere thanks to PCG for extending timely assistance to Chinese crew member,” Guo said.
The Coast Guard District Southwestern Mindanao (CGDSWM) said it received a distress call on Tuesday from MV Min Hua 9, requesting the medical evacuation of a 55-year-old Chinese crew member who suffered electrocution on board the vessel.
In response, the PCG immediately deployed BRP Tubbataha along with a medical team to carry out the rescue operation.
The patient was successfully evacuated the same day and was transported to the nearest hospital in Zamboanga City for further medical treatment.
