DA in R2 launch Kadiwa store in Tuguegarao

To help farmers market their produce, the Department of AGriculture in Region 2 together with the Cagayan Seed Producers Multipurpose Cooperative (CSPMPC) launched recently a Kadiwa store in Tuguegaro City in San Gabriel Village.

The store will expand the market reach of farmers’ produce in the region and provide consumers another venue to buy cheaper agricultural products from this outlet.

Kadiwa, which was popularized by former First Lady Imelda R. Marcos with the National Food Authority at the frontline–  stands for “Katuwang sa Diwa at Gawa para sa Masaganang Ani at Mataas na Kita,” to directly connect farmers and other producers to consumers, thereby reducing substantially the cost of goods.

The Cagayan Valley Development Cooperative of San Gabriel launched last January 18, the Kadiwa store. that is expected to help farmers widen their market in and around the village and reduce wastage usually suffered by farmers of the region.

“This momentous occasion marks a significant milestone to promote sustainable agriculture, empower local farmers and provide our community with access to fresh and affordable produce thus strengthening our commitment to fostering a vibrant community,” assured Roberto Claro Busania, DA-Region 2 technical director for operations and extension.

The Kadiwa store offers premium rice, vegetables, fruits, processed products and condiments to the public at reasonable and affordable prices, according to earlier repors.

Busania said the Kadiwa would help solve the marketing issues that farmers always experience (with the usual supply gluts) and the consumers (from high prices on the demand side), eliminate middlemen and avoid dumping of vegetables.

CSPMPC Chairman Nestor Bautista thanked Rose Mary Aquino, the DA-Region 2 OIC Director, for considering the cooperative as recipient of the Kadiwa program.

CSPMPC is one of the clusters assisted by the DA-Region 2 office’s Rice and Farm and Fisheries Clustering and Consolidation Program.

“We are grateful for the trust of the DAR-RFO2 (Regional Field Office 2) in our ability to properly implement the project like the previous programs given to us,” Bautista said.

CSPMPC manager Dumon Mabborang thanked the agencies that extended support to the cooperative namely the DA, Land Bank and the Cooperative Development Authority for their assistance to the coop. (RDLC)
