The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has given online businesses until Sept. 30, 2025 to register for the E-Commerce Philippine Trustmark, a move aimed at boosting consumer confidence and addressing mounting complaints in the digital marketplace.
The mandatory registration, outlined in a DTI Administrative Order, is in line with Republic Act 11967 or the Internet Transactions Act of 2023. It comes as DTI recorded more than 13,000 complaints related to online transactions from January to August this year.
Under the law, consumers may seek damages against erring online businesses through the DTI or the courts. Repeat violators face fines of up to P1 million for the third and subsequent offenses.
DTI said digital badges have already been issued to major players such as Shopee, TikTok Shop, Lalamove, LG, Asahi, ToughMama, Midea, Carrier, Billease, DHL Express, Dowell, Edamama, Tefal, Gogo Xpress, ShippingCart, and Tosot.
To qualify for the Trustmark, businesses must comply with standards on full business disclosure, consumer data protection, and an internal redress system for complaints.
