It will be sad season for the local entertainment industry even if Susan Roces, film icon and Queen of Philippine Movies is laid to rest tomorrow, Thursday, May 26, 2022.
The death of Susan lent a void in the vast space of the movie arts and sciences. Veteran actor and Roces’ fellow star in the ABS-CBN longest running action caper “FPJ’s Ang Probinsiyano” Jaime Franregas had expressed his lonely thought that “it would take a long time before another Susan Roces is discovered.”
People from all walks of life queued up to have the last gazes on their idol and favorite actress.
Show business denizens never ran out of last respects to the actress as they personally and virtually pay her homages.
Sharon Cuneta, Vilma Santos, Lorna Tolentino, Jinggoy Estrada, Eric Quizon, Tirso Cruz III, Lyn Madrigal, Imelda Papin, Lyn Ynchausti, Zeny Marcelo-Poe, Coco Martin, Ramon “Bong” Revilla, Jr., Mitch Valdes, among others, were taking off their hats to their colleague they considered their sis and surrogate mom.
The Muslim community had also offered its pious reverence to Susan, the wife of the late Fernando Poe, Jr. who was their ultimate hero.
Direkto Datu Dimapanat and wife Noraiza Lacoto Dimapanat travelled all the way from Cotabato City to be with the bereaved Sornora and Poe families.
“Mahal na mahal ng mga Muslim si Susan (The Muslims love Susan very dearly),” said Zeny, the common-law-wife of the late Conrad Poe, FPJ’s half-brother.
Susan will be buried beside the tomb of her husband FPJ at the Manila North Cemetery.
