Senator Erwin Tulfo is facing a quo warranto petition before the Senate Electoral Tribunal (SET) questioning his right to hold office due to alleged citizenship issues.
SET Deputy Secretary Eleanor Francisco-Anunciacion revealed during the agency’s budget hearing that the case was filed on July 15, 2025—two months after the proclamation of newly elected senators. While she did not name Tulfo, records show that disbarred lawyer Berteni “Toto” Causing filed the petition.
Causing had previously sought Tulfo’s disqualification during the 2025 elections, citing moral turpitude, citizenship, political dynasty, and academic qualifications, but the Commission on Elections dismissed the case for lack of merit.
Tulfo acknowledged the pending petition, saying he is ready to face the proceedings before the tribunal. TRACY CABRERA
