Twenty-two faculty members of the School of Design and Arts of De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde (CSB) are set to exhibit their latest works at the Altro Mondo Picasso gallery in Makati City from February 9 to March 5.

Titled Re-calibrated, the exhi bit features the current and diverse practices of CSB’s faculty member-artists, such as Bagiwa, Benjie Torrado Cabrera, Hector Barretto Calma, Camahalan, Alfred Capiral, Tim Dacanay, R.M. de Leon, Cristina Escario, Noel Farol, KR Fernandez, Reymar A. Gacutan, Olivia Lopez, DJ Agnes Macasaet, Hershey Malinis, Marcushiro Nada, Kaloy Olavides, Abe Orobia, Vincent Padilla, Mervy Pueblo, Tess Quadra, Ian Quirante, and Joey Yupangco.

“Scanning the relationship between virtual space and real time reveals expressive possibilities in visual forms,” curator and faculty member-artist Noel Farol said. “We explore the narratives of mediated environments and approaches to digital mediation and spatial experience.”

Activities during the exhibit—which shall showcase paintings, sculptures, prints, and video art—include an opening ceremony on February 9 at 6 p.m.; a performance-art show featuring, among others, Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) Thirteen Artists Award winner Kaloy Olvades, called “Re-calibrated Acts: Performance”, on February 18 at 6 p.m.; and a closing ceremony featuring soundscapes by DJ Agnes Macasaet on March 5 at 5 p.m.

The faculty member-artists participating in Re-calibrated belong to the Design Foundation (DF) department of CSB’s Art and Culture Cluster. DF is responsible for preparing students for their major courses by training them in drawing, painting, materials manipulation, and art history and theory.

Its students have won awards, such as Resorts World Manila’s “Pinoy Ultimate Jeepney” design competition, where it won its second People’s Choice award this year. In 2015, CSB students took the Grand Prize in the Coca-Cola Bottle Art competition.

The DF department is headed by Prof. Tim Dacanay and is under the Benilde Arts and Culture Cluster, headed by Associate Dean Dr. Sunita Mukhi.
