The Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) has announced that it is now accepting entries to the 27th edition of the Gawad CCP Para sa Alternatibong Pelikula at Video (CCP Independent Film and Video Competition), or Gawad Alternatibo, which will be held in August.
In a statement, the CCP said entries to the competition may be in digital video disc (DVD) and MiniDV formats for video, and that these will be screened at its Tanghalang Manuel Conde, or CCP Dream Theater, on August 8, 9 and 11.
The competition categories are Short Feature/Narrative, Experimental, Documentary and Animation. All works submitted to the competition must be strictly independent works and not produced for commercial screening. These must not have been completed earlier than October 2014. Each participant may submit a maximum of three entries in each category.
Cash prizes and certificates will be given to the winners in the different categories, which will be announced at an awards ceremony that will be held at the Tanghalang Manuel Conde on August 11. Special awards will be given for the best regional entry and best entry for/on/by children. Honorable mentions may be given by the jury.
Starting this year, the Gawad Alternatibo will be part of the Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival and Competition—now on its 11th year—to be held from August 7 to 15 at various CCP venues and Ayala theaters.
Deadline for the submission of entries is at 6 p.m. of July 3. Entries must be addressed to the CCP Film, Broadcast and New Media Division (formerly Media Arts Division), on the fourth floor of the CCP Main Building, Roxas Boulevard, Pasay City.
Entry forms, guidelines and mechanics can be downloaded from the CCP website (www.culturalcenter.gov.ph) and the Cinemalaya website (www.cinemalaya.org).
Established in 1987, the Gawad Alternatibo is considered the longest-running independent film competition of its kind in Southeast Asia. Some of today’s finest filmmakers and media practitioners are former winners in the competition. TMM
