Defending champion Adamson University is back to defend its crown against 29 other schools as the Shakey’s Girls Volleyball Invitational League (SGVIL) Rising Stars Conference kicks off on May 28 at Dela Salle Greenhills gym.
A record 30 teams, 20 in highly anticipated Division 1 while 10 developmental teams in Division 2 have joined the annual tournament organized by Shakey’s Pizza Parlor, Potato Corner, R & B Milk Tea and Peri Peri Charcoal Chicken and Sauce Bar.
“In celebration of Shakey’s 50th Golden Anniversary, we decided to increase the number of teams and accept more schools to give them a chance to develop and gain more exposure,” said Dr. Ian Laurel, president of Athletics Events and Sports Management, Inc. (ACES).
“Since our launch many schools have shown interest and inquired how to join but due to the tournament format we decided to limit the number of participants.”
“We started with 16 teams in our inaugural tournament, increased to 18 last season and now we have 30 teams joining the tournament. It’s part of our growth,” added Laurel.
The Baby Falcons banner the 20-school Division 1 while La Salle Greenhills leads the 10-team Division 2.
Adamson,which defeated powerhouse Bacolod City Tay Tung HS in last year’s finals, will lead Pool A along with Lyceum of the Philippines University, Emilio Aguinaldo College, Naga College Foundation and University of Perpetual Help Dalta System.
Pool B will be composed of Tay Tung HS, La Salle Lipa, Bethel Academy, Chiang Kai Shek College and Holy Rosary College Sta Rosa City.
2022 champion California Academy composed Pool C along with La Salle Zobel, Kings Montessori High, Corpus Christi School and Arellano University.
In Pool D are reigning UAAP champion National University- Nazareth School, Far Eastern University, St. John Institute Bacolod, University of the Philippines Integrated School and University of Sto Tomas.
In Division 2, Pool E comprises La Salle GH, La Salle-Zobel B, Miriam College, Everest International Academy and Assumption College Makati.
Pool F includes Immaculate Conception Academy, Domuschola International School, St. Paul College Pasig, Assumption College Antipolo and St. Theresa College Quezon City. AA
