BBM lauds son’s recusal from impeachment proceedings

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. last week expressed support for his son, House Majority Leader Ferdinand Alexander “Sandro” Marcos, saying he acted appropriately by recusing himself from all impeachment proceedings against him.

In a video released by the Presidential Communications Office, Marcos said he first learned about his son’s decision from news reports, not directly from him.

“That is very proper dahil I am his father and syempre, meron siyang bias for me,” the President said, noting that the move reflects the congressman’s natural partiality.

Marcos added that the inhibition helps safeguard the impartiality and credibility of the proceedings.

“Tama iyan. He should recuse himself. He should remove himself from the process so that the process can be seen to be fair and proper,” he said.

The young Marcos announced his recusal after a second impeachment complaint was filed against the President on Monday, emphasizing that while the rules do not mandate his withdrawal, “leadership sometimes calls for restraint rather than participation.”

Malacañang also lauded the decision on Tuesday, describing it as proper and statesmanlike.
