Award-winning actress and television personality Iza Calzado has been appointed at the newest national ambassador of the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF)-Philippines, the environmental organization said recently.
In a statement, WWF-Philippines said Calzado is part of the “growing family of celebrities who are helping spread WWF’s solutions on climate change, conservation, resource protection and environmental education.”
These celebrities are Asia’s Got Talent hosts Mark Nelson and Rovilson Fernandez; former equestrian-turned-media personality Mikee Cojuangco-Jaworski, who is the group’s climate solutions steward; actor and Pilipinas Got Talent co-host Luis Manzano, marine conservation steward; prize-winning performer Piolo Pascual, forest conservation steward; and actors and product endorsers Carmina Villaroel and Zoren Legaspi, and their kids Mavy and Cassy, environmental education stewards.
“Iza embodies the empowered Filipina who leads an active, healthy and sustainable lifestyle. Plus, she’s actively involved in raising environmental awareness,” WWF-Philippines President Joel Palma said.
Calzado is excited to become part of the organization and hopes to share WWF solutions—plus her own unique lessons—to raise public awareness on ecological issues.
“It’s time for us to give extra attention to environmental solutions and how we can turn the tide if we work together, today,” she said.
Among the projects of WWF-Philippines, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, are Earth Hour, the world’s largest environmental mass-action event; the conservation of certain species, like the whale sharks of Donsol town, Sorsogon province; and a vigorous environmental-education drive that has reached more than 700,000 children in the country.
“We’re really excited to work with Iza. We believe she’ll be a great WWF ambassador in reaching our goals and touching the hearts of people,” Nelson and Ferdnandez said.
