Shanghai—A total of 23.72 million automobiles were produced and 23.49 million sold in China last year according to figures released by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.
The figures, which represent respective year-on-year sales growth rates of 7.3 percent and 6.9 percent, signify that the Chinese automobile market is once again the world’s largest, said the Beijing Times in a report.
Statistics show that six automotive enterprises, SAIC, Dongfeng, FAW Group, Changan, BAIC and Guangqi, sold a total of 18.59 million automobiles over the course of the year, constituting 79.2 percent of all vehicles sold in the country.
SAIC’s sales broke the five million mark, selling a total of 5.58 million automobiles last year. Sales for Dongfeng, FAW, Changan, BAIC and Guangqi totaled 3.81 million automobiles, 3.08 million automobiles, 2.5 million automobiles, 2.41 million automobiles and 1.17 million automobiles, respectively.
Over 300 new energy automobile models were available in the country last year. A total of 83,900 new energy vehicles were produced in 2014, over quadrupled the amount sold the previous year. 27,200 new energy vehicles were manufactured in December alone, setting a new monthly record.
