DBM gives green light on hiring of new healthcare personnel for PGH

The Department of Budget and Management (DBM) has greenlit the recruitment of 1,224 additional healthcare workers (HCWs) for the Philippine General Hospital (PGH) over the next three years to help expand its capacity in delivering public medical services.

This initiative follows the approval of a funding request made by the University of the Philippines-Manila, which operates PGH, the country’s foremost public hospital. Budget Secretary Amenah “Mina” Pangandaman confirmed that the hiring will be carried out in four tranches, starting in the first and fourth quarters of 2025, and continuing through similar phases in 2026 and 2027.

Pangandaman emphasized that the budget approval supports President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s directive to make high-quality healthcare more widely accessible, especially for disadvantaged and underserved communities.

“Ito ay bilang tugon sa kahilingan ng UP-PGH na palakasin ang organizational at manpower capacity ng hospital upang higit na makapagbigay ng dekalidad na healthcare services sa mga pasyente nito lalo na sa mga Pilipinong higit na nangangailangan,” the budget chief said.
