The ‘Eugene Torre Chess Museum’, the first chess museum in the country in honor of the living legend and famed Filipino Chess Player opened in Marikina City.
Torre, a living legend and Filipino pride in sports was issued with a Postage Stamp recently in honor of his achievement in the international sporting arena.
At the age of 22 years old, Torre was the first Asian to qualify with the title of grandmaster after winning the silver medal at the 21st Chess Olympiad in Nice, France.
This year, Torre was elevated in the World Chess Hall of Fame. He is also the first player in Chess who defeated then World Champion Anatoly Karpov held in Manila in 1976.
The Eugene Torre Chess Museum is located at Pan de Amerikana Restaurant along Gen. Ordoñez, Brgy. Concepcion Dos Marikina.
It is open from 6:00 in the morning up to 7:00 in the evening, from Tuesday until Sunday. The Museum is free to the public.
