P59-M Poro Point baywalk project opens on February 14

The P59.81-million Poro Point baywalk and events center project inside the freeport zone in San Fernando, La Union, will have its soft opening on February 14. 

According to Ives Q. Nisce, chairman of the board of the Poro Point Management Corporation (PPMC) said the baywalk project will be initially opened to the public on Valentine’s Day.

“The baywalk is PPMC’s contribution to the local community. It will be a place to be visited for free by residents in the city and in the province,” Nisce said.

The baywalk is a 1.3 kilometer-stretch that boasts of an events center which includes an amphitheater, playground and parks. Some 44 cut lots are open for lease for tourism and commercial-related establishments.

It faces the San Fernando Bay where nature enthusiasts, locals and visitors can view the evening lights across the bay and the whole of San Fernando City while enjoying the sea breeze.

Nisce encourages local business owners and small and medium enterprises to locate inside the zone through this project.

Meanwhile, PPMC President and Chief Executive Officer Florante S. Gerdan said they expected the project to be completed by January this year but increment weather delayed the early completion of the project.

However, he assured, that the area will be fully completed in time for Sillag Festival of Lights slated on April 8 to 10.

“The baywalk spot will be the events area for the upcoming festival. By then, the place will be fit for the event,” Gerdan said.

The Sillag Festival is on its fifth year of celebration this year. It is an annual crowd drawer in the Ilocos region. Highlights of the festival include fluvial parade, street dancing, exciting competitions and pyromusical show.
