PSC Laro ng Lahi slated May 26-29 in Ifugao

As part of its grassroots sports program, the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) is bringing the Women in Sports: Laro ng Lahi to Lagawe, Ifugao on May 26-29, 2023.

Bowling legend and PSC Commissioner Olivia “Bong” Coo said the four-day event will feature five regular sports, such as muay, weightlifting, boxing, taekwondo and wrestling and 10 indigenous games of Ifugao like guyyudan, kadang-kadang sa bao, dopap dimanuk, munbayu, and uggub, among others.

“Ifugao would like to strengthen their five regular sports, and the PSC would like to help them,” said Coo, also the PSC Women in Sports program oversight commissioner.

“Majority of the games will be played by women and girls as we want to increase the number of female athletes and discover new talents to be part of our national training pool,” she added.

The PSC, represented by the office of Coo, sent a group to conduct an ocular inspection and coordination meeting with Agustin Calya-en, Executive Assistant of Provincial Governor Jerry Dalipog on February 17.

“The Province of Ifugao is really preparing for big events this year with the PSC’s help and assistance, especially in the provision of sports equipment. Iyan ang gusto ni Gov. Dalipog, para ma-improve yung sports program namin.” Calya-en said.
As part of the preparations for the event,  the PSC will also have an alignment meeting with the Ifugao workforce such as the local secretariat, medical, security and officiating teams in April to ensure its success. ROBERT ANDAYA
