Ajinomoto Conducts Ocean Clean-Up and Mangrove Planting at Baseco Beach

Manila, Philippines – As part of its continuing sustainability initiatives,  Ajinomoto Philippines Corporation (APC) recently conducted a coastal clean up and tree planting at Baseco Beach in Tondo Manila.

In collaboration with the Asia Society for Social Improvement and Sustainable Transformation (ASSIST), the initiative mobilized employees, community members, and volunteers to collect trash, plastic and other marine debris along the Baseco coastline. This prepares the area for tree-planting which is part of Baseco’s ongoing rehabilitation program that aims to improve water quality, prevent shoreline erosion, and protect the community from flooding.

At the end of the activity, the group was able to collect a total of 360kg assorted solid waste from the shoreline and prepared a total of 208 mangrove seedlings for future planting.

APC Chief Sustainability Officer, Ernie Carlos pointed out that, “Marine and plastic pollution is a huge problem that calls for  collective action. Our commitment to environmental stewardship moves us to share our time and resources to contribute to safer, healthier communities and a greener future for Filipinos.

He further explained that the said initiative underscores Ajinomoto Group’s global goal of extending the healthy life expectancy of one billion people while cutting environmental impact by 50% by 2030.

Ajinomoto Philippines continues to roll out sustainability initiatives including eco-friendly packaging, nutrition education programs, food rescue efforts, and more all anchored on its mission of advocating nutrition and sustainability for all.
