In a city once defined by conflict, Marawi is now rising with renewed spirit — using sports as a language of unity, solidarity, and peace in Mindanao.
The Philippine Sports Commission (PSC), in partnership with the Bangsamoro Sports Commission (BSC) and the Mindanao State University (MSU), convened the Mindanao Sports Summit — a milestone that highlighted how sports can bridge differences, empower the youth, and strengthen communities rooted in hope and resilience.
The summit tackled key areas such as sports psychology and science, women’s participation in sports, effective coaching and management, and sports promotion through mainstream and digital media — essential pillars for building a long-term, inclusive sports development roadmap for Mindanao.
“This is more than a summit — it’s a movement toward a resilient, peace-driven sporting future for our region,” said Atty. Paisalin P. D. Tago, CPA, President of the Mindanao State University System.
Beyond the discussions, the event celebrated Marawi’s vibrant culture — its people’s deep faith, creativity, and unyielding strength. Here, the fusion of culture and sports proves that peace is not merely a dream, but a goal achieved through shared passion and purpose.
In every game played and every youth inspired, Mindanao reaffirms that sports can heal, connect, and unite — turning strength into solidarity, and solidarity into peace.
“Marawi is the land of promise, and we are committed to supporting its youth, athletes, and community every step of the way.” said PSC Chairman Patrick “Pato” Gregorio.
The summit became a powerful platform for shared vision and collaboration, bringing together leaders from local government units, educational institutions, sports organizations, and civil society groups.
