BDO Foundation, the corporate social responsibility arm of BDO Unibank, has funded the rehabilitation of the rural health unit of Allen town, in Northern Samar, as part of its assistance to provinces severely affected by disasters.
The rural health unit was damaged in 2015 by Typhoon Nona, considered one of the strongest to make landfall in the province.
The improved health center was inaugurated and turned over in an event attended by BDO Eastern Visayas area head Albert Chu, BDO Foundation program director Rose Espinosa and BDO Samar-Catarman branch head Hazel Divinosa, who recommended the health center to the foundation and assisted in coordinating with local officials.
Local officials were represented by Allen Mayor Laureana Suan, Allen Vice Mayor Arturo Dubongco Jr. and Allen Rural Health Unit municipal health officer Dr. Daisy Abasolo M.D.
BDO Foundation rehabilitated the rural health unit’s offices, clinics, consultation rooms, treat ment rooms and facilities as well as its spaces for children and senior citizens.
Further, the foundation refurbished its birthing facilities and breastfeeding station so that mothers and babies are afforded the best care possible.
The improvements will enable doctors and nurses to provide patient care more effectively.
The rehabilitation of the Allen Rural Health Unit benefits more than 26,000 people in 20 barangays. The health center averages approximately 22 births per month.
