Historical film “Quezon” gets PG rating

THE Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) has classified  “Quezon” with a PG (Parental Guidance) rating following a thorough review.

Under PG, the film may contain themes or scenes that require parental supervision for 13 years of age and below.

Starring Jericho Rosales as President Manuel L. Quezon, the film is a historical biopic about President Quezon’s relentless pursuit of power. As he fights for Philippine independence, he masters the brutal game of politics, using charm and favoritism as both weapons and currency, to outmaneuver his rivals.

In his quest to build a nation, he leaves behind a legacy of patronage and political loyalty that endures to this day.

“Films like ‘Quezon’ celebrate our nation’s history and values. Through our age-appropriate rating, we ensure that viewers, especially Filipino children, can engage with these stories under proper parental guidance,” said MTRCB Chairperson and CEO Lala Sotto.

Meanwhile, four foreign films have been approved for public exhibition.

The American films “Good Fortune,” starring Keanu Reeves, and “Kiss of the Spider Woman,” starring Jennifer Lopez, were both R-13 (Restricted-13), suitable for 13 years old and above.

‘Good Fortune’ is a comedy about an angel named Gabriel, who tries and fails to show a struggling man that money doesn’t solve one’s problem, while ‘Kiss of the Spider Woman’ is a musical-drama that tells a story of imagination, love and freedom.

Adding extra chill for mature audiences, the horror-thriller movies “Black Phone 2” and “The Mariana’s Web” both received an R-16 rating, making them suitable for viewers aged 16 and above.

Sotto encourages parents and supervising adults to guide children while watching films.

“With proper parental guidance, films like these can spark meaningful conversations and help nurture positive values among families, especially the Filipino children,” said Sotto.

As the MTRCB marks its 40th founding anniversary, the Agency reaffirms its commitment to protecting viewers, supporting the film and television industry, and promoting “Responsableng Panonood” through age-appropriate content classification.
