Marcos appoints Magno acting NBI chief

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has named Angelito Magno as acting chief of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), replacing retired judge Jaime Santiago who recently resigned.

In October, the President appointed Magno as NBI officer-in-charge.

Magno served as NBI assistant director for legal service. He started working in the agency in April 1991 and became director in March 2010.

Magno headed the investigation in the killing of the late Negros Oriental Governor Roel Degamo on March 4, 2023, who was ambushed at his residence in Pamplona, Negros Oriental.

He also investigated the oil spill caused by the 2023 sinking of MT Princess Empress in Oriental Mindoro as well as the case of Socorro Bayanihan Services president Jey Rence Quilario (a.k.a. Senior Agila).

Magno also led the investigation of the case against Australian Peter Scully, a notorious pedophile; the 2010 probe that resulted in the shoot-out with Jason Ivler; and the arrest of former Bamban, Tarlac mayor Alice Guo.

He graduated from the University of San Carlos, Cebu, with a law degree.
