London—The newborn royal baby girl made her first appearance to the public with the Duke of Cambridge and the Duchess outside St. Mary’s Hospital on Saturday evening.

The baby, born at 8:34 a.m. (local time) was presented by her parents to the world at around 6:10 p.m.

The Duchess and Duke of Cambridge looked very relaxed with smiles on their faces. The Duchess was taking the baby in her arms and the baby girl was asleep.

The couple didn’t say anything in front of the media. But the Duke said he was “very happy” at the arrival of his second child when he went to Kensington Palace earlier to take his son to the hospital.

Older brother Prince George has met his sister in the afternoon.

The royal family then left the hospital for Kensington Palace, which is just less than 30 minutes away.

The baby weighs 8 lbs 3 oz, or about 3.7 kg.

“Her Royal Highness and her child are both doing well,” Kensington Palace said in a statement on Saturday morning.

Kensington Palace said the Queen, the Duke of Edinburgh, the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall, Prince Harry and members of both families have been informed.

Party leaders tweeted their congratulations for the royal family.

“Congratulations to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge on the birth of their baby girl. I’m absolutely delighted for them,” Prime Minister David Cameron wrote on Twitter.

Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg said he and his wife Miriam wished “them all the best as their family grows.”

Labor leader Ed Miliband tweeted: “Congratulations to the Duke and Duchess on the birth of their daughter. Wishing them lots of joy and happiness—and hopefully some sleep!”

The Duchess of Cambridge gave birth to the baby at St. Mary’s Hospital in west London, where Prince George, Prince William and Prince Harry were also born.

Kensington Palace said the Duchess of Cambridge was admitted at 6:00 a.m. (local time) to the hospital, and traveled by car from Kensington Palace to the Lindo Wing at St. Mary’s Hospital.

The newborn princess is now the fourth in line to the British throne, behind her brother George, father William and grandfather Prince Charles. Xinhua
