Yuchengco Group of Companies (YGC) reaffirms its commitment to building a sustainable and risk-aware business community at the 2025 YGC Disaster Resiliency Summit. With the theme “Strengthening Culture of Disaster Resiliency,” the recently held summit brought together business continuity leaders from YGC affiliates and emergency management experts to share knowledge and best practices on disaster preparedness.
The 2024 World Risk Index named the Philippines as the most disaster-prone country in the world for the third consecutive year. Given its geographical location and archipelagic formation, the country faces risks from natural hazards, like typhoons, earthquakes, and volcanic eruptions. An average of 20 tropical cyclones enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) every year, with eight to nine of these expected to hit the country.
Amid the consecutive typhoons that entered PAR recently, Philippine President Bongbong Marcos pushed for the passage of bills that strengthen the country’s disaster resiliency and help protect the environment. Aligned with the administration’s risk preparedness efforts, YGC calls for increased resilience and risk management practices for all its affiliate companies to help the communities it serves in cases of unprecedented disruptions.
“It has become vital to be organized and be well equipped for these events, especially that we live in a country that is in the center of various natural disasters,” said Lorenzo V. Tan, House of Investments President and Chief Executive Officer. “It is by empowering ourselves that we can truly achieve our goal of future-proofing our processes to enable our respective companies not only to survive but to thrive in times of disasters.”
Led by the YGC Business Continuity Management (BCM) council, the summit is part of a broader initiative to institutionalize a culture of disaster readiness and reduce disruption during emergencies, safeguard lives, and ensure seamless continuity of business operations.
As part of its holistic efforts on disaster resiliency, the BCM conducts monthly training to YGC employees for emergency preparedness, including fire safety, basic first aid, and situational response strategies. These initiatives ensure that all employees of YGC affiliates are aligned and know their roles and responsibilities when disasters strike. This alignment bolsters the conglomerate’s sustainability, overall preparedness, and crisis management practices, ensuring that all YGC companies are synergized through shared resiliency initiatives.
The Disaster Resiliency Summit also served as a platform to foster meaningful dialogue on emergency preparedness nationwide, bringing together experts from diverse sectors who provided a broader and more integrated approach to disaster management.
