Composer Jesse Lucas to hold music master class

Prolific, prize-winning composer for stage and screen Jesse Lucas is set to hold a free three-hour master class on the art of writing music for film and television at the 1701 Little Rooms Upstairs in Quezon City on January 29. 

During the master class, Lucas will tackle a wide range of topics, including having the mindset for composing music for film and TV; the process of composing music, from preproduction to postproduction; guidelines in composing effective music for different film and TV genres; film scoring vs TV scoring; dealing with directors; handling tight deadlines; and applying cultural sensibility to musical choices.

The master class is designed for music students and musicians who are interested in pursuing a career in film and TV scoring. The class shall accommodate a maximum of 20 participants, who, ideally, must know some of the basics of MIDI/DAW/virtual instruments, music theory and harmony, and arranging and orchestrating music (MIDI/live instruments).

Lucas has won various musical-scoring awards for his works. These include the Gawad Urian for Ang Babae sa Breakwater (2004); the Metro Manila Film Festival trophy for Luksong Tinik (1999); the Star Award for Filipinas (2004); and five Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences (Famas) trophies for 9 Mornings (2003), Filipinas (2004), Mano Po 3 (2005), Kasal, Kasali, Kasalo (2007), and A Love Story (2008)—a feat that elevated him to the Famas Hall of Fame.

He has scored hit teleseryes, such as Maging Sino Ka Man (2006 and 2008); Kahit Isang Saglit (2008); Lovers in Paris (2009); Magkaribal (2010); Princess and I (2012); Bridges of Love (2015); and Magpahanggang Wakas (2016–2017).
