Export revenues of coco products fall to $2.58B in 9 months

EXPORT revenues from coconut-based products fell by 2.7 percent from January to September 2026, pulled down by lower coconut oil earnings, according to the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).

Coconut-based exports for the 9 month period slid by 2.7 percent to $2.58 billion from the $2.65 billion posted in the same period last year, reported Business Mirror.

Receipts showed that shipments of coconut oil—the country’s top farm export—generated $2.09 billion in revenues during the reference period, down by 2.9 percent from the previous year’s $2.15 billion.

This, despite quotations for coconut oil in the world market averaging $2,083 per metric ton (MT) in September, according to the World Bank. This was higher than the $1,981 per MT in the previous month and $1,924 per MT in July.

PSA data indicated that exports of desiccated coconut also dropped by 13.1 percent year-on-year to $327.39 million as of end-September, from $376.62 million.

Despite this, earnings from outbound shipments of copra meal or cake continued to surge on an annual basis, up by 45.1 percent to $49.56 million, from $34.16 million in the same period last year.

Revenues from other coconut products also rose by almost 28 percent in the reference period to $114.03 million from $89.32 million.

Earlier, United Coconut Association of the Philippines (Ucap) Chairman Marco Reyes said the impact of El Niño on plantations would be felt towards the second half of 2027.

He noted that the dry spell would affect the flowering, with the actual lower nut harvest being less than 12 months after that.

Fruits, vegetables

As for fruits and vegetable exports, the PSA data showed that as of end-September revenues  inched up by 5.2 percent to $2.22 billion from the previous year’s same period of $2.11 billion.

Banana shipments, which led the product group, grew by 11.4 percent to $1.3 billion from the $1.17 billion recorded in the same period last year.

Outbound shipments of certain pineapple products, however, posted a year-on-year decline.

Canned pineapple exports slid by 5 percent to $148.34 million, from $156.22 million. Shipments of pineapple juice also plunged by 23.5 percent to $80.06 million, from $104.69 million.

Despite this, exports of pineapple concentrates rose by 16.8 percent to $17.13 million from last year’s same period of $14.66 million.
