Rigondeaux replaces Donaire vs. Casimero

John Riel Casimero will now face WBA regular bantamweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux, replacing Nonito Donaire in a unification bout, according to the Premier Boxing Champions (PBC).

Casimero was supposed to fight Nonito Donaire but the WBC titlist pulled out of the match citing the former’s disrespectful comments toward his wife Rachel and issue over drug testing.

This led to PBC arranging a fight between Casimero and Rigondeaux on August 14. Venue  will still be announced.

Rigondeaux said on Instagram he wanted a rematch with Donaire and slammed Casimero’s antics. He also posted a screenshot of Donaire’s post that he was pulling out of the Casimero fight.

Casimero had a word war with Donaire after he posted disrespectful content towards the latter’s wife Rachel, compounded by Casimero’s issues with doping tests that led to Donaire cancelling the fight.

Rigondeaux (20-1) had earlier defeated Donaire (41-6) with a unanimous decision in their 2013 bout for the WBA Super and WBO super bantamweight belts.
