However cliché the line “after the storm, the sun shines,” it still is a reminder that hope and life are always antidotes to the destructiveness of despair and death to get moving the everydayness.
Although a life fully lived at 95, the death of classical singer Cresencia Pagunsan Lopez in the US last month had left a void in the heart of her daughter, beauty queen and actress Maria Isabel Lpez.
Thankfully, she was at Cresencia’s deathbed and many times when the mother was in a home care.
Life has to go on, though.
Maria Isabel later collected herself, wore a pretty face no matter the sadness and desolation kept brewing deep inside and sprang up to get back to life.
In between sighs and laughs, Maribel managed to pull off many things to revive her zest for life like attending Thanksgiving Day observance with kith and kin, especially with husband, lawyer Jonathan Melrod, keeping track with her film and TV assignments in the Philippines and abroad, collating memorabilia of their mom with sister Marites Lopez for a posthumous album, bonding with daughter Mara Lopez, communicating online with son Ken Yokohama back home and a lot more activities to preoccupy her mind.
On December 15, 2021 at 1:00 PM (Philippine time, Lopez will be one of the main panelists in the virtual soft launch of award-winning entertainment journalist Boy Villasanta’s new book, “SekSinema (Gender Images in Philippine Sex Cinema Enfolding Pandemia).”
Please follow Boy’s Facebook accounts, namely, Boy Villasanta and Julianito Villasanta, for updates, especially Zoom links and passcodes of the event for public participation.
“SekSinema (Gender Images in Philippine Sex Cinema Enfolding Pandemia)” is an in-depth expose and probe of the employ of sex in the history of the nation and Philippine cinema from the first screen kiss of the earliest Filipino actors Luis Tuazon and Elizabeth “Dimples” Cooper in Jose Nepomuceno’s “Ang Tatlong Hambug” in the 1920s to the current digital filmmaking and live streaming of sex movies.
After her online appearance in the book launch, Maribel will fly to the Philippines at the end of the year to welcome 2022 and fulfill her showbiz commitments.
She will also bring home the urn of ashes of her ma beloved.
