BSP traces its transformation via past Governors’ voices

The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) launched last July 3, 2025 a book series, The Governors Speak, featuring select speeches of former governors of the Philippine central bank.

The Governors Speak offers a unique perspective on the transformation of central banking in the Philippines through the words of former governors. The series provides insights into the Bank’s evolving role during pivotal moments in Philippine economic history.

“The book reminds us that central banking is more than just about interest rates and macro-economic models. It’s also about clear, credible and timely communication,” current Governor Eli M. Remolona, Jr. said in his message.

The series is divided in three volumes:

  • Volume I – Early Governance and Pioneering Efforts (1949-1993): Speeches of the seven Governors of the Central Bank of the Philippines
  • Volume II – Transformative leadership (1993-2017): Speeches of the first four BSP Governors
  • Volume III – Current initiatives and forward-thinking (2017 to present): Speeches of BSP Governors from 2017 onwards

The publication’s launch was one of the highlights of BSP’s 32nd anniversary celebration, which was established on July 3, 1993.

The launch was attended by former central bank Governors Jose L. Cuisia, Jr., Amando M. Tetangco, Jr., and Benjamin E. Diokno, alongside key BSP officials and stakeholders. The Governors Speak series is available in digital format on the BSP website.
