QUEZON CITY, Metro Manila — The Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) management has assured commuters there will be no fare increases in the coming year as it confirmed that it will be focusing instead on improving the line’s stations, particularly the escalators.

In a public statement, MRT-3 general manager Mike Capati announced plans to replace escalators at Taft Avenue and Ayala stations between 2026 and 2027 even as the new Daluan trains they have acquired will be gradually deployed until all 48 of them are running before the end of 2026.

Capati cited that these improvements are expected to help maintain the 3.5-minute headway for passengers and potentially increase the line’s capacity from 500,000 passengers per day to 600,000-700,000 passengers per day.

He added that the assurance of no fare hike, coupled with ongoing improvements, aims to provide a more reliable and comfortable commuting experience for MRT-3 passengers.
