The Association of Philippine Journalists-Samahang Plaridel Foundation Inc. joins the whole nation in honoring the country’s national heroes, including Marcelo H. Del Pilar, dubbed as “Father of Philippine Journalism.”
Samahang Plaridel Chairman Rolando G. Estabillo and president Evelyn Quiroz will lead a simple wreath-laying ceremony at the bronze statue of Del Pilar located at the corner of M.H. del Pilar St. and Pres. Quirino Ave. in Manila (infront of Ospital ng Maynila).
The wreath-laying ceremony, scheduled at 9 AM on Sunday, Aug, 30 (Sunday) marks Del Pilar’s 176th birth anniversary. Del Pilar is also known by his nom de plume Plaridel.
Local Government officials have also been invited to attend the ceremony.
“We’re inviting all our friends in the newspaper industry, especially Samahang Plaridel members, to join us as we pay tribute to Del Pilar and all our national heroes on this very special day,” said Estabillo.
Quiroz, for her part, said the group honors Del Pilar annually during his birth anniversary (Aug. 30) and death anniversary (July 4) for his pivotal role as editor of La Solidaridad and his enduring legacy in Philippine journalism.
After Del Pilar’s birth anniversary on Aug. 30, the nation will celebrate National Heroes Day the following day, Aug. 31.
