Clean Sport, Bright Future: Team Philippines gears up with Anti-Doping seminar

The Philippine National Anti-Doping Organization (PHI-NADO) gave Team Philippines a powerful send-off by hosting an Anti-Doping Education Seminar on September 30, 2025, at the Diamond Hotel, Manila. With the theme “Clean Sport, Bright Future: Building Filipino Champions with Integrity,” the seminar inspired young athletes to embrace fair play and sportsmanship as they prepare to compete at the 3rd Asian Youth Games in Bahrain from October 22 to 31, 2025.

Over 200 athletes, coaches, and officials joined the session in person and online, learning how to uphold the principles of clean competition while representing the country. Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) Commissioner Olivia “Bong” Coo, speaking on behalf of Chairman John Patrick “Pató” Gregorio, welcomed participants and encouraged them to embody the values of integrity and discipline. PHI-NADO Head Dr. Alejandro Pineda Jr. guided delegates through anti-doping fundamentals, while Chef de Mission Ramon “Tats” Suzara delivered a message of motivation and support.

The seminar included live demonstrations of the doping control process by Doping Control Officers Nathan Vasquez and Alethea Laquindanum. Dr. Marion Rivera presented the World Anti-Doping Agency’s (WADA) Prohibited List and Therapeutic Use Exemptions, followed by an engaging question-and-answer session. Adding inspiration, Philippine Olympic Committee Athletes’ Commission Chair Jessie Lacuna and jiu-jitsu world champion Meggie Ochoa shared their personal journeys in a panel discussion titled “The Athlete’s Code: Principles of Strict Liability, Rights, and Responsibilities of Athletes.”

Athletes also participated in interactive discussions entitled “Why Compete Clean? Building a Culture of Clean Sport,” presenting their pledges to uphold honesty, discipline, and sports integrity. The program concluded with the awarding of certificates of participation and closing remarks from Dr. Pineda, reinforcing PHI-NADO’s commitment to nurturing a culture of clean sport in the country.

With integrity as their foundation, Team Philippines is ready to shine on the global stage in Bahrain. Play True. Play Clean. Play Fair.
