Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez warned Regional Trial Court Judges against the issuance of temporary restraining order to stop the implementation of crucial government infrastructure projects.
Alvarez made the warning during the hearing of the House Committee on Transportation as he urged anew the Department of Transportation (DOTr) to proceed with the bidding and construction of the common MRT-LRT terminal regardless of the possibility of a TRO.
“Itayo nyo na yang terminal na yan, kesehoda yung mga TRO diyan, gawin nyo na yan. Pera ng gobyerno yan, project ng gobyerno yan bakit iti-TRO? O gawin nyo yan. Subukan nilang i-TRO di i-impeach natin. Hindi ako nagbibiro dito,” Alvarez said.
Under Republic Act 8975, only the Supreme Court can issue any TRO, prelimimary injunction or preliminary mandatory injunction against government infrastructure projects.
Alvarez said the DOTr should not waste time in implementing the project which would benefit many Filipino commuters.
