Dark days ahead

It will be sadly dark for the next six years. A BBM voter said “Suportahan na lang natin kung sino man mananalo.” Wise words from a humble barber.

Midway through the administration of Digong Duterte, not a few of the more than 16 million Filipinos who voted for him said they were disillusioned. They thought Digong would make a difference. They thought Digong would improve their lives.

What changed their hearts? The killings. The double-standard. The foul-mouth.

They say Filipinos are too forgiving. We have a short memory. We don’t learn the lessons from the past.

After 36 years, they’re back!

Henceforth, the next generation of Filipinos will learn from new textbooks that the Martial Law years were the country’s Golden Years. No one was killed or tortured then. Ferdinand E. Marcos, Sr. was the greatest president of the country. There never was ill-gotten wealth stashed abroad.

Posted on FB – You are free to choose. But you are not free from the consequences of your choice.

When will BBM supporters start to also get disillusioned?

The rallies and speeches have stopped. The people have voted. Reality will sink in slowly, until we feel the pain, just it did during Digong’s term.

If the BBM-Sara campaign hammered unity at every rally, will BBM appoint members of the opposition to the Cabinet? If those speeches were sincere, will Leni get a job in this administration?

Someone from their family said: “Truth is not real. Perception is real.”

So, the challenge ahead for traditional media is how to fight for truth and push back alternative truth which will soon become the norm.

The army of trolls may still have jobs in this administration – creating alternative truth.

Fortunately, manipulated perception can be peeled by foreign media. Their archives on the Marcos regime could lead to piercing comments on our country’s choice for president.

Then comes the predicament of the US. The White House must make a choice. They need the Philippines to counter Chinese aggression in the West Philippine Sea. But BBM cannot set foot on US soil. He is a wanted man there. Will they forgive him? Can the trolls create alternative truth for the US to make this president an ally? Did the US see this coming? White House aides must be scrambling for answers to any possible question from Biden.

Those campaign promises have all been trashed. Foreign policy. Economic recovery plan. Poverty alleviation. High prices. Unemployment. Pandemic response. The road map will not be coming from BBM. These will be crafted by his alter egos in the Cabinet – as well as outside the Cabinet. Forget those rosy promises.

How bright these department secretaries will determine if we stand a chance of surviving.
