What seemed like a simple a meet up between the National Commission of Senior Citizens (NCSC) and the Pamantasang Lungsod ng Maynila (PLM) was actually a prelude to the biggest event for senior citizens of National Capital Region (NCR) this year.
To jumpstart the meeting cum training workshop, NCSC Chairman Franklin Quijano and Dean of PLM College of Humanities, Arts and Social Science Danilo Cortez, Jr. met on Saturday and discussed the preparations for the four-day NCSC-NCR Summit starting December 12.
Twenty talented and outstanding students from the said colleges of PLM took part in the day-long Technology Facilitator’s orientation and workshop under the supervision of Chairman Quijano and Dean Cortez at the Executive Lounge inside PLM campus in Intramuros, Manila.
The participants, composed mainly of 3rd and 4th year students of BS Communication courses of PLM underwent the training workshop utilizing Open Space Technology (OST) to help process, document and facilitate the NCSC-NCR Summit and National Advisory Body.
Open Space Technology is a process originally designed by Australian novelist, playwright and journalist Harrison Owen, which allows organizations, groups and communities to operate with high levels of dialogue, passion and commitment. It also allows leadership and structure to emerge, stimulates meaningful planning and initiates inspired performance. This technology has gained popularity across the globe and is now widely practiced and applied by both the corporate and government sectors. The NCSC-NCR Summit will be attended by hundreds of senior citizens organizations including the Office of Senior Citizens Affairs (OSCA), Federation of Senior Citizens Associations of the Philippines (FSCAP) and City Social Welfare and Development Office CSWDO from 13 cities and 1 municipality of Metro Manila.

Slated from December 12-15, the twin events – the NCSC-NCR Summit and National Advisory Body Convention will be held at the National Museum in Manila and the Mall of Asia Arena (MOA) in Pasay City, respectively. (Photos and video editing credits to Cliff Cabigon and Ian Marquez-Celis)
