The local government of Mati in Davao Oriental has teamed up with the Alpha District Development Solutions, Inc to adopt a systematic, comprehensive, and ecological solid waste management program to establish a waste upcycling facility.
A Memorandum of Agreement between Mayor Michelle Nakpil Rabat and Alpha Development Solutions, Inc. Executive Vice President Michelle Bautista-Tanada dubbed as Gawaing Matino at Wasto, a circularity and sustainability programs, was signed last week in Mati.
The agreement is attuned to the United Nations declaration that the years 2021-2030 as the Decade of Restoration and Decade of Ocean Science.
The Philippines has been reported as the highest ocean plastic waste polluter where nearly 37% are plastic waste.
Rabat said she sees the potential of her city as an eco-tourism destination where they will showcase waste to upcycled materials which can be used to build houses, parks, furniture, and other materials.
Alpha, on the other hand, will not only establish a waste upcycling facility but also maintain the facility as well as provide expert guidance for livelihood, capacity building, and creative-innovation-driven programs and projects.
The upcycling facility will create and produce eco-products.
“We are looking forward to more collaborative work with different LGUs and other interested parties to ensure that we will help our people be a creators and limit waste and plastic polluters in our ocean, in our environment,” Bautista-Tanada said.
Alpha has other companies under its wing that are all committed to upcycling and circularity are Wasto and EcoHomeArt. It also pursues its goal to promote Green, Blue, and Circular Economy, thus contributing to climate change resiliency in our country.
Alpha DDSI also partnered with the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) and NGOs like Balikatan Sa Kaunlaran, the National Council of Women of the Philippines
