At the Golden Jubilee celebration of the University of Santo Tomas (UST) Faculty of Atts and Letters class ’75, alumnus Eleanor Castillo Santos asked us about the cause of the breakup between Catriona Gray and Sam Milby.
I told her there was no third party involved in the split which was already explained by Sam.
“May naririnig ko, si Chavit Singson daw (According to the grapevine, he was the root case of the breakup),” said Eleanor, also known as Elly, a Fil-Am.
Castillo-Santos is based in the US and the rumor she said apparently stemmed from overseas.
“Grabe naman. Nauuna pa sa ibang bansa (It’s really crazy. Hot news even comes from abroad),” I commented.
It so happened that during the UST Artlets ’75 out-of-town activity at the Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar, we were with Ruth S. Farinas, Chief of Staff of the Office of Rep. Richelle Singson of the Ako Ilocano Ako para sa Pilipino party-list.
“May gano’n bang kumakalat na balita (Is there something like that spreading around?),” asked Ruth.
“Naku, hindi totoo ‘yan. Walang katotohanan ‘yan (Oh! That’s not true. There’s no truth to it),” Farinas emphasized.
“Porke ba nakita lang silang magkasama noon sa kampanya, e, sila na? Sobra naman ‘yon (Just because they were seen together during the campaign, would mean they have a romance. That’s too much),” she chuckled, shaking her head.
“No, there’s no truth to it,” she reiterated.
“Catriona and Manong (a term of endearment to an older man or brother by blood) Chavit have no affair,” dismissed Ruth.
