EV sales in Phl seen hitting 20K in 2025

Sales of electric vehicles (EVs) in the Philippines could increase by 7 percent this year, hitting an annual purchase volume of 20,000 units for the first time, according to industry expectations.

Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines, Inc. (Campi) President Rommel Gutierrez said he expects that 4 percent of the estimated 500,000 vehicle purchases this year will be EVs.

“The growth of EV sales is expected to track overall industry sales growth, driven by increasing consumer adoption, supportive government policies, expanding charging infrastructure and entry of more players,” Gutierrez told reporters.

Last year, the CAMPI official said that around 4 percent of the total sales were EVs.

With the overall purchases hitting 467,252 units in 2025, this meant that EV sales had reached 18,690 units last year.

EVs sales, which include hybrid electric vehicles (HEVS), plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), and battery electric vehicles (BEVs), in Philippines had been increasing annually in the last several years according to Campi data.
Campi records saw sales hit 187 units in 2019, 344 units in 2020, 810 units in 2021.

EV sales numbers have not been released in public by Campi for the years 2022 and 2023.

Last month, EV sales reached 1,600 units, accounting for 5.36 percent of the total sales during the first month of the year.

HEV’s were the most sold in the local market, with 1,445 units sold during the month. Purchases of BEVs followed with 146 units and PHEVs with 9 units.

Amid this optimistic outlook, Gutierrez said that a number of car companies, which include Tesla and potentially BYD, will also introduce new EV unit models this year, thereby expanding options for local buyers.
