Feasibility for Quezon Ave. Busway out next year

The feasibility study for a busway system along Quezon Avenue in Quezon City is expected to be completed next year, according to the Department of Transportation (DOTr).

The busway line along Quezon Avenue starting at Espana, will replicate the successful EDSA Bus Carousel, providing a dedicated bus lane for commuters in Manila and Quezon City.

Funding will come from the Asian Development Bank (ADB), according to Dizon.

Dizon and Budget Secretary Amenah Pangandaman inspected the SM North and North Ave. stations of the EDSA Busway last week.

The inspection followed a presidential order for a “commuter-centric” transport system and the modernization of the EDSA Busway.

The renovation of EDSA Busway stations will begin within the year. Dizon said all stations would be modeled after the SM North Station.

“We are done being car-centric when it comes to transport infrastructure. We need to be commuter-centric,” Dizon said.

The EDSA Busway, a DOTr flagship project, was implemented in cooperation with the Department of Public Works and Highways and the Metro Manila Development Authority.

The EDSA Busway is considered the most successful road transport project of government for Metro Manila.
