Department of Transportation (DOTr) acting Secretary Giovanni Lopez ordered Iloilo International Airport to remove the initial security screening to free up space for passengers and ease congestion.
After Lopez recently inspecting the airport, Lopez gave airport management a 15-day deadline to submit an action plan for the improvements. He said the initial screening was redundant and stressed the need to allocate more space for travelers, preventing crowding at the check-in area.
The final security check before boarding gates will remain in place to maintain airport security, Lopez said.
Lopez also instructed management to finalize plans for the expansion of the airport’s passenger terminal building. He ordered the fast-tracking of the installation of automated check-in through facial recognition to ease congestion.
Lopez also directed Iloilo Airport to focus on runway improvements to accommodate larger aircraft, which would boost the airport’s capacity for international flights.
