President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. met with executives of Amazon Web Services (AWS) Inc. in Malacañang last week to discuss the company’s proposed investment in the Philippines, including plans to establish an AWS Region that could generate up to USD5 billion in investments over the next 15 years.
During the courtesy call, the President and AWS officials explored ways to expand the company’s presence in the country in line with the administration’s efforts to accelerate digital transformation and strengthen the Philippines’ position as a regional digital infrastructure hub.
According to the Presidential Communications Office (PCO), the proposal includes the possible establishment of an AWS Region—a cluster of data centers that would deliver cloud computing services directly from the Philippines.
If implemented, the project is expected to significantly enhance the country’s digital infrastructure while creating thousands of high-value jobs for Filipinos.
The investment would also enable businesses, startups, and government agencies to access faster, more secure, and more reliable cloud services without relying on overseas data centers.
The PCO said the planned AWS Region is expected to improve the country’s digital competitiveness by expanding access to cloud technologies that support artificial intelligence, data analytics, cybersecurity, e-commerce, and digital government services.
The proposed investment forms part of the government’s broader strategy to attract major technology companies and accelerate the country’s digital economy through world-class infrastructure and innovation.
