Former GMA-signed actress Bea Binene reverts to a lead role via Pee Mak, a horror-comedy thriller that premiered at SM Megamall October 12.

When Bea moved to Viva Entertainment, she was initially assigned secondary roles, wherein she showed her versatility as an actress.

The Viva film, also starring Wilbert Ross, is an adaptation of the hit Thai horror-comedy movie Pee Mak.

“Pee Mak” is considered the highest-grossing film of all time in Thailand starring Mario Maurer and Davika Hoorne. It first came out in 2013.

It was a good thing that we knew next to nothing about Pee Mak when we accepted the invite to attend its premiere. We didn’t know what to expect, yet as soon as the film unreeled, we were immediately hooked.

The film succeeds in drawing viewers into the story, a merry mix of mystery, comedy, and a bit of the horrific. Bea Binene manages to look totally mystifying— ethereal, even— in her scenes with Wilbert, who plays her returning-from-war husband.
The comic scenes, provided by

Vandolph Quizon, Jairus Aquino, TJ Valderrama, and Gian Bernardino, go beyond slapstick, although there’s a lot of it in the film.
What’s good about Pee Mak is that it follows a solid-rock story handled efficiently by director Victor Villanueva.

It opens in cinemas nationwide on October 14.
