Whatever happened to drama and action star Edgar Mande?

Where is he now?

Edgar at the moment has settled in the US with wife Mona Fabie.

Mande and Mona are expected to attend the in-person launch of the book “SekSinema (Gender Images in Philippine Sex Cinema Enfolding Pandemia)” in the US on January 14, 2023 at 2-5 pm at the Philippine Expressions Bookshop at 479 W. 6th Street, San Pedro, California.

Here’s my exclusive interview with Edgar:

(Boy Villasanta): Why did you decide to go abroad despite your success in the local movies?

(Edgar Mande): Kase nandito na ang pamilya ko (Because my family is already here).

(BV): What did you realize the very moment you stepped in a foreign soil?

(EM): Maganda ang Amerika kumpara sa Pilipinas. Napakalayo (America is beautiful compared to the Philippines. They’re too different from each other).

(BV): What did you think of your migration to the US as you go along with your life?

(EM): Na-realize ko dito kasi madali ang trabaho. Parang ordinaryong tao ka lang. Masipag ka lang, maraming trabaho (I realized her that jobs are easy to come by and you’re just like an ordinary person. As long as you’re industrious, there are a lot of jobs).

(BV): How do you miss acting?

(EM): S’yempre nakaka-miss yan naging trabaho ko sa Pinas, naging bread and butter ko sa Pinas mula 1980 hanggang 2004 na pumunta na ako rito sa US. (Of course, I miss it because it was my job in the Philippines, my bread and butter since 1980 until 2004 when I went to America).

(BV): Are there things you regret not having done while you were in the Philippine cinema?

(EM): Wala naman halos lahat naman role nagawa ko (None because I have done almost all the roles I imagined).

(BV): Do you still keep in touch of happenings in Philippine movies? How?

(EM): Sa YouTube and lahat halos ng reporters kaibigan ko sa Facebook. (In YouTube and almost all movie reporters are my friends in Facebook).

(BV): Since you are in the US, are you considering a Hollywood venture?

(EM): No.

(BV): There are film productions going on in the US which involve Filipino creatives like actors, have you been part of them?

(EM): No.

(BV): What do you miss most in the local film industry?

(EM): Mga out-of-town basketball games, shootings and tapings.

(BV): What are you fondest memories of the Liberty Boys (a group of young men in showbiz who lived together in Liberty Avenue in Cubao, Quezon City being managed by the late Alfie Lorenzo?)

(EM): ‘Yung mga sama-sama kami lumalabas. Sama-sama kami natutulog sa isang bahay na kasama namin ang aming manager na si (Those moments we were going out together. Those days that we were sleeping under one roof together with our manager) Alfie Lorenzo.

(BV): How’s your married life?

(EM): Ang pag-aasawa sa umpisa lang mahirap…Habang tumatagal…pahirappppppp ng pahirapppppp hehehe joke lang (Marriage is hard in the beginning…As it goes along…it’s getting difficulttttttt and diffictultttttt (laugher) joke only).

(BV): I saw photos of your sweet moments in FB with your wife like your adventure in a private plane, how exciting was the event?

(EM): Sobrang saya yan na pinamasayang nangyari sa tanang buhay (Too much joy and happiness. That was the most joy=uful moment in my entire life).

(BV): How did you two meet?

(EM): Blind date.

(BV): What are your plans at the moment?

(EM): Mabuhay nang tahimik na magkasama kami ng wife ko hanggang buhay (To live a quiet life with my wide forever).

(BV): Is Mona agreeable of your doing movies again, if ever, in US or in any part of the world?

(EM): Sa totoo lang ayaw ko nang magpelikula * ibang journey na ang buhay ko ngayon. Okay lang naman sa wife ko kahit ano gusto kong gawin (Honestly, I don’t want to do movies anymore. I have a different journey now. It’s okay with my wife whatever I wanna do).

(BV): How happy are you now?

(EM): Sobra sobra saya (Extremely happy). Thanks.
