Airlines hire more crew to meet travel demand

Airlines are adding routes and hiring more people as travel is making a strong comeback after two years of near hiatus.

Air passengers can now fly directly from General Santos City to Clark, Pampanga beginning 26 April 2023 after Cebu Pacific said it will add new flights for the route.

In 2020, GenSan City entered into a sisterhood agreement with Clark, Pampanga, hoping to boost local tourism and business.

However, due to the pandemic, the program was put suspended. It was Air Asia who made the inaugural voyage from Gensan to Clark.

With commercial flights finally available on 26 April, local officials in GenSan as well as in Clark look forward to finally realize the dream of economic cooperation and business progress between the two cities.

AirAsia Philippines, meanwhile, is boosting its manpower to support strong travel demand beginning this summer.

On 2 March, AirAsia Philippines announced it is beefing up its operations by hiring more pilots and cabin, ground, and technical crew to support the steady growth in flight bookings in line with the upcoming summer season, signifying the airline’s path to recovery.

AirAsia PH has already hired 600 new flight and ground crew amid headwinds last year.

For the first two months, the airline has also processed an initial 260 new hires.

In 2022, AirAsia flew a total of 500,000 passengers from its hubs in the Philippines. This figure has already tripled as of 28 February, as forward bookings until December 2023 continue to increase, especially for popular local destinations such as Bohol, Boracay and Puerto Princesa and in such out-of-country getaways as Bangkok, Osaka, Tokyo and Incheon.

Steve Dailisan, AirAsia PH Communications and Public Affairs Head said with the resumption of their ASEAN destinations and flight frequency expansion, which greatly contributes to their overall load factor, the airline is continuously expanding its roster of flights and on-ground crew to accommodate projected travel demand growth among Filipino travelers in 2023.

To encourage more guests into booking their flights early, AirAsia PH is kicking off the month of March with the 3.3 Travel Fest, which offers a one-way base fare of as low as P33 to local destinations like Bacolod, Cagayan de Oro, Tacloban, Cebu and Davao.

Guests can also enjoy one-way base fares to Hong Kong, Macao, Taipei, Kaohsiung, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen for as low as P1,033. 3.3 Travel Fest is available for booking until March 5 for travels through 30 September, 2023.
