BBM slams Bulacan flood control project contractor

President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. blasted Saint Timothy Construction Corporation on Friday over its alleged failed flood control project in Calumpit, Bulacan, demanding the contractor explain its work.

During an on-site inspection of the Rehabilitation of the River Protection Structure, Marcos learned that Bulacan has the most flood control projects in the country—668 contracts—awarded to the Pasig-based company owned by the Discaya family.

“St. Timothy is the contractor here, so we will look into it. They need to answer why this happened. They should come here and see how difficult life has become for our kababayan because of what they did,” the visibly frustrated President said.

He also fumed over the project’s years-long delays, saying, “What possible excuse do they have for not doing this? I can’t think of any.”

The President was told no dredging or desiltation had been carried out as part of the project, prompting him to order scuba divers to inspect the site.

The Presidential Communications Office said the probe was triggered by a resident’s letter to Malacañang alleging substandard materials were used in the project, raising concerns of possible irregularities. TRACY CABRERA
