Ensuring reliable access to clean water remains a pressing priority in many parts of the Visayas and Mindanao, where climate change, rapid urbanization, and ecological disruption continue to strain natural water sources.
As local governments and communities seek sustainable water management systems, BDO Unibank Inc. is stepping up to support these efforts through long-term financing.
One of its key partners is Mactan Rock Industries Inc., a Cebu-based water solutions provider with over four decades of expertise in water treatment and distribution.
For nearly 20 years, BDO has supported the company’s growth through revolving credit lines, import financing, and letters of credit, enabling Mactan Rock to modernize its systems and extend services to more clients.
“We have worked with resorts, barangays, and water-scarce urban districts. By deploying customized water systems, we’ve seen significant improvements not just in sanitation, but in the overall quality of life,” said Lito R. Maderazo, Chairman and President of Mactan Rock.
From SM Cebu and SM Iloilo to hospitals and tourism hubs, Mactan Rock’s projects reflect a shared vision for sustainable development. But scaling these projects, Maderazo emphasized, requires patient capital and strong financial partnerships.
“Water treatment requires significant upfront investment and it often takes years to recover. BDO’s trust and support help move our business forward. The Bank has been instrumental in financing our projects,” he added.
BDO’s support underscores its broader commitment to nation-building through inclusive and sustainable growth.
“Our partnership with Mactan Rock signifies BDO’s commitment to supporting initiatives that deliver long-term value for communities and businesses. Access to clean water is critical to building resilient communities and sustaining economic progress,” said Charles M. Rodriguez, BDO Executive Vice President and Head of the Institutional Banking Group.
Sustainability is central to Mactan Rock’s operations. The company actively avoids over-extraction of groundwater and promotes environmentally sound solutions such as wastewater recycling and rainwater harvesting—methods that are both cost-efficient and eco-friendly.
Looking ahead, Mactan Rock plans to expand in Luzon, particularly in Metro Manila, where increasing population density and rising demand for water highlight the urgent need for reliable infrastructure.
With BDO’s continued backing, the company aims to bring its innovative water systems to even more communities nationwide.
