BDO helps OFWs build long-term wealth

For many overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), success is no longer measured solely by the amount of money sent home but by the lasting financial security they are able to build for their families through education, homeownership, investments, and retirement planning.

Highlighting this shift, BDO Unibank reaffirmed its commitment to helping OFWs achieve long-term financial goals during a thanksgiving event in Cebu held as part of the bank’s 50th anniversary celebration.

The event featured retired OFWs who shared how years of working abroad enabled them to transform their earnings into lasting family assets.

Among them was retired marine engineer Robert Ventura Cordovez, who ended his 35-year seafaring career in December 2025 after prioritizing his children’s education while steadily building the family’s financial portfolio.

Cordovez said he and his wife were able to send their children to college, acquire a family home, invest in real estate, purchase vehicles, and eventually establish their own business.

Former Dubai-based worker Suzette Maglinte also recounted how she and her husband worked overseas to finance their children’s education while helping support their extended families.

The couple said they have since fully paid for their house and purchased a vehicle through BDO’s financing programs. Their next priority is preparing for retirement and exploring business opportunities that can provide a stable source of income after their overseas employment.

BDO said it continues to provide financial solutions that help OFWs manage their savings, investments, and long-term wealth creation as they prepare for life after working abroad.

The bank remains the country’s largest lender, operating more than 1,700 branches and over 5,500 automated teller machines nationwide, along with 14 international offices across Asia, Europe, North America, and the Middle East to serve Filipinos working overseas.

BDO also continues to lead the domestic banking industry in terms of total assets, loans, deposits, and trust assets under management, reinforcing its position as one of the primary financial institutions serving the country’s growing overseas Filipino community.
