CAAP OKs electronic tech logbooks for helicopters

The Philippines has become the second country in Southeast Asia, after Singapore, to accept the use of electronic technical logbooks for its helicopter fleet.

The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) approved the deployment of Airbus Helicopters’ Fleet Keeper® application in the country to modernize local helicopter flight log processes and provide maintenance reminders.

The use of electronic technical logbooks for helicopter fleet was successfully introduced in Europe.

After four months of intensive discussions and user demonstrations, the CAAP confirmed that Fleet Keeper® meets the country’s airworthiness requirements.

Hence, operators can substitute the paper technical logbook for Fleet Keeper® in Philippines’ operations.

A handful of local operators have since enrolled some seven Airbus helicopters into the CAAP-approved program.

Fleet Keeper® will be progressively introduced to other Southeast Asian countries.

The Airbus Helicopters-developed application is a complete e-solution built on a simplified version of the traditional paper-based technical log books.

Compatible not just with all Airbus’ helicopters but with those of other manufacturers as well, the application delivers cockpit views of a customer’s fleet status, and enables real-time data exchange between pilots, line mechanics and airworthiness managers.
